SONUSKAPOS Jazz Orchestra

Led by Mason Victoria, the SONUSKAPOS Jazz Orchestra (SSJO), is an 18-piece big band founded in 2014. The memebers of the SSJO consist of the finest emerging jazz musicians in the Greater Toronto Area, who collectively aim to inspire and strive to push the limits of contemporary big band by attracting audiences through all-original compositions and arrangements. In its first year, the orchestra was able to write over 25 original compositions and arrangements which have been performed in multiple iconic venues in the GTA, including The Rex Hotel Jazz & Blues Bar, Lula Lounge, Gallery345, Placebo Space, The Burdock and Musideum.

Mason Victoria is a Toronto-born composer, arranger, trumpeter and bandleader. He has studied with composers such as Andrew Jones (Brampton Jazz Mechanics), Daniel Jamieson (Danjam Orchestra), John Macleod (Rex Jazz Orchestra), Paul Read (Paul Read Orchestra) and as well has had pieces performed by bands led by Josh Grossman (Toronto Jazz Orchestra) and choirs led by Dallas Bergen (UNIVOX Choir). As a trumpet player, Mason has also studied with many distinguished Canadian jazz musicians such as Alastair Kay, Brian O'Kane, Dave Dunlop, Steve Crowe, Jim Lewis and Kevin Turcotte.

In addition to forming SSJO, Mason has aided in the establishment of ambitious projects including ART // The Big Band, an 18-piece big band based on the music of the original Toronto trip-hop group, and Masini McDermott's One Night Only Live concert series.
