Leo Codiga and the Southwest Corridor

The Southwest Corridor is one of Montreal's most exciting new groups, comprised of some of the city's best young exponents of contemporary jazz. Led by Boston and Montreal-based saxophonist and composer Leo Codiga, the Southwest Corridor rhythm section hails from all over the US and Canada, featuring guitarist Zacharie Winter (Brooklyn, NY), pianist August McKinney (Minneapolis, MN), drummer Julian Ferrer (Vancouver, BC), and bassist Mason Jeffery-Off (Ottawa, ON). Codiga is also the recent winner of the Student Composer’s Prize at Montreal’s ODD Sound Jazz Festival, a collaboration between local labels ODD Sound and Effendi Records. Stylistically, the group has strong foundations in traditional jazz but also draws inspiration from more contemporary artists such as Kenny Wheeler, Immanuel Wilkins and Seamus Blake. These influences shape Southwest Corridor’s thematic explorations of gratitude and self-respect.
