Thomas Steele 10Tet

The Thomas Steele 10Tet is a ten piece jazz ensemble from Toronto, Ontario. The group features ten of the most engaging and lyrical musicians in the University of Toronto Jazz Studies program, with an unusual twist. The group is chordless, meaning there is no piano or guitar in the group. This unusual twist on a large ensemble creates endless opportunities for compositions to use the instruments in the ensemble to create the harmony of the pieces. With a four piece saxophone section with prolific doubling abilities, as well as two trumpets that double on flugelhorn, a trombonist and bass trombonist, the instruments can create a variety of sound palettes and textures.

Members of the group:

Thomas Steele (Wind I)

David Hodgson (Wind II)

Jacob Chung (Wind III

Alex Manoukas (Wind IV)

Kaelin Murphy (Trumpet I)

Madeline Ertel (Trumpet II)

Nicholas Adema (Trombone I)

Andrew Gormley (Bass Trombone)

Irene Harrett (Upright Bass)

Jacob Slous (Drums).
